Description

[honestly, this started as a joke about having a combative counterpart to Cain, and it just took off]

~~

Name/Alias: Abel

Occupation/Title: Autonomous Battle Engaged Learner

Species: Android; Humanoid

A.I. Level: Complex; Adaptive; Combat-Oriented

Role: Troop Leader/ Combat Assistant

Status: Active; Heavily Supervised

Purpose:

A.B.E.L was originally the name of a self-taught A.I program created by the “Neosansus” complex – disembodied at that time – given to soldiers in field missions to help it gain first-hand combat knowledge and the basic dynamic of a troop.

The program's adaptive nature was based on the core programming of the C.A.I.N prototype, Neosansus' crown achievement in the field of both A.I and memory-therapy. It had gone through some changes, making it more compatible to the heat of battle, drawing away from its interpersonal orientation, enhancing its split-second decision making, based on its environment.

Once the program was deemed prepared, it was tested through a simulation to see its theoretical responses and decisions, and once the programming team was satisfied with consistent, positive outcomes, A.B.E.L was assigned to the engineers so they'll fashion it a proper body to fit its gained knowledge and purpose – to aid and protect human soldiers in battle.

The prototype android created was then given the name Abel, after its adaptive programming as well as an ironic gesture to Cain, who much of the staff refer to as Abel's “brother”. Abel wasn't build to be a human as Cain is, but quite the opposite – sporting a massive, armored body meant to withstand most standard fire, inflict hard hitting blows with his bare arms, and donning a complexion that's not completely human-like and naturally intimidating.

Operating Methods & Features:

Abel is usually deployed as a leader of a troop of soldiers, commonly in arid and urban environments, commonly hostile. His troop is always composed either mostly or entirely of more experienced soldiers, both for the sake of the mission's success rate, and because newer recruits tend to be intimidated by his towering stance and stoic, nearly expressionless demeanor. Even though he's usually the leader, he can also operate under the command of another human soldier.

He is trained in both hand-to-hand combat and most common firearms, as well as having a built-in rifle in each of his forearms and a mini-turret tucked in his right shoulder.

To allow easier communications, Abel has a build transmission system he can adjust himself to any frequency in order to vocalize directly into the team's line. Even when he talks normally, he can still transmits his voice through the system.

Abel's optics are also well-equipped for every situation, with several interchangeable vision, most used being night and thermal.

One of Abel's main features is highly advanced targeting system based on facial recognition, used to quickly spot an enemy. Abel has two types of targeting methods – remotely programmed, or self selected. The remote method works by programming a facial profile into the targeting system, done only by specially authorized supervisors, while the self selected method relies on Abel's own judgment of the situation, aided by some guidelines to what and who an enemy is.

Due to the remote method being prone to hacking attempts, one would result in an immediate shut-down of this type of targeting, to avoid having Abel targeting the wrong people until the issue is rectified.

More features in his design are his hair – made of plated scaled connected on one side to his scalp and can move and tighten to function as an integrated helmet – and his feet – which present 4 “tusks”, 2 at to front and 2 at the heel of each feet, that can dig into most hard surfaces and thus anchoring Abel to the ground, for reasons ranging from stabilizing his shooting stance to withstanding the force of an explosive shock-wave.

Personality:

Unlike Cain, who's required to show sympathy and understanding to his patients, Abel deals with hardened soldiers that require him to be decisive and assertive. He has a very dominant presence and talks little other than business, to the point it could seem like he doesn't care about the well-being of his troop, although it's merely because he feels it's none of his business unless they bring this up to him – in which case he'll never ignore their distress.

While he won't usually show his care, Abel is quick to show his dismay, and his scowl is famous among his relatively limited range of facial expressions.

Other:

  • Unlike Cain, Abel hardly ever blinks. This is due to the material encasing his optics repelling most types of dirt and filth, and it gives him an unblinking stare that'll unnerve most people. The only times he does blink is when he changes his vision mode.

  • Abel is taller than Cain, but not by much. Still, having a bulky figure compared to Cain's rather slim one, he always appears much bigger when they are standing side to side.

  • If he was to hang around the right people for long enough, Abel would eventually develop more sympathetic feelings, similar to those built into Cain's programming from the beginning.

  • Much like the biblical characters they are named after, Abel and Cain don't usually get along, mostly due to the sheer difference in their purposes. Luckily, they don't come across each other too often.
